Announcement of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Yoshinori Ohsumi presented by Professor Thomas Perlmann, Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, on 3 October 2016.

Professor Maria Masucci of the Nobel Assembly described the science behind the prize.

Interview about the awarded work

“Doctor Ohsumi was interested in working with problems that other investigators stayed away from”. Following the announcement, Professor Juleen Zierath, member of the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, was interviewed by freelance journalist Lotta Fredholm about Yoshinori Ohsumi’s awarded work.
